Editor's note: YourHub.com is asking candidates running for office in the November election to complete a questionnaire. Look for the Q&As to run in the print editions up to the Nov. 6 election.
My name: Laurett Barrentine
Office I'm running for:
Englewood City Council District 3
What I do:
Accountant
What I like most about living here:
Englewood has a unique neighborhood feel. My neighbors are wonderful people who look out for each other and don't hesitate to help out. I could not have picked a better place to raise my son.
My interests and hobbies:
Volunteering for Hands All Around has been a fantastic experience. I get to learn about quilting with a great group of women who have a lot of fun for a worthwhile cause. A lot of my time is spent with two volunteer citizen groups that work to keep local government accountable, open and accessible.
What is my favorite thing to cook:
My son loves watching the food network. He does all the culinary experiments and so far they have all been winners.
People who inspired me (and how):
My family and my neighbors continue to inspire me with the depth of their character, integrity and heart. They are the reason I work so hard on City Council.
How I have contributed to the community:
Like most people in Englewood, I contribute by being a good mom, raising a great young man, helping my family and neighbors, taking care of my property, sharing stuff from my garden and volunteering at my son's school and in the community. I have also contributed as a member of several State and City Boards and for the last four years have served on the Englewood City Council.
What are the biggest issues facing Englewood now:
Spending more than we collect
Evaluating our priorities
Creating a responsible budget process
Eminent Domain limits to prevent government taking private property for development
Need for a positive business environment to encourage investment
