Candidate Q&A: Vicki S. Howard - School Board
Contributed by: Vicki Howard on 10/11/2007

Editor's note: YourHub.com is asking candidates running for office in the November election to complete a questionnaire. Look for the Q&As to run in the print editions up to the Nov. 6 election.

My name: Vicki Howard

Office I'm running for: Englewood School Board

Age: 49

My family: My Husbands name is Stu and we have been married for 23 years. . We have 3 children: Katie, age 22; Rebecca, age 19, and Joe, age 15.

What I do: I work for our family Die Casting Business. My duties include Office Manager, shippping and working out in the machine shop.

My favorite place in town to hang out: Acoustic Music Revival on Saturday aftenoons. They have free concerts, and I like to sit and listen to the music while my son takes his guitar lesson.

What I like most about living here: I like the weather, and I like to travel around Colorado. We like hot springs, and there are many places to go within a couple hours from our home.

My interests and hobbies: Right now I am working on a committee that involves going through a lot of memorabilia from the Englewood School District. A lot of it dates back to the late 1800's and the 20's, 30's and 40's. It has been very interesting a lot of fun to see all of this stuff.

What is my favorite thing to cook: I like to bake. A favorite thing to make is Snickerdoodles.

People who inspired me (and how): My kids inspire me. The world is so different now from when I was growing up, and they have so much to face. They can multi task with all kinds of technology, and know a lot more than I do. They make me want to make a difference with their education.

How I have contributed to the community: I have been volunteering in the Englewood schools for 17 years. I have served on many committees, among them PTO and SAC at all levels and the Financial Advisory Committee.

What are the biggest issues facing Englewood Schools now: I think Englewood is facing many challenges right now with student achievment. Children are at so many levels and the teachers have to adjust their lessons to be able to serve every kid. That takes some great strategy and talent to make sure that everyone is learning.
