Frank Weddig announced his candidacy for a second term as Arapahoe County Commissioner at local caucus gatherings on Tuesday evening. Weddig told the attendees that "much has been accomplished over my last three years and yet much remains to be done".
During Weddig's first term Arapahoe County moved aggressively in numerous areas. Among them was the successful formation of the South East Metro Storm Water Authority and the refinancing of county bonds. These actions will save Arapahoe County taxpayers tens of thousands dollars each year.
Weddig is proud of the role he has played in pushing forward several long delayed projects, such as, the new County Fairgrounds and Eastern Service Center. His support of streamlining processes and emphasizing "efficiencies" has led to balanced budgets and increased flexibility in the budgets for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Weddig also encouraged the signing of the Mile High Compact, a voluntary agreement among Denver metro governments to work together on growth issues. The Compact is a critical agreement that will affect the county for years to come, as it identifies where transportation investments will be made, where growth is expected to occur, and how the region will maintain water and air quality standards over the next 20 years.
Commissioner Weddig was influential in addressing the pressing needs of the courts and criminal justice center, and consequently, work will begin this summer on a $13 million dollar project that adds a 54,000 square foot addition to the justice center in Centennial.
Weddig was honored to serve as Board Chair in 2007.
Weddig's projects for this year include the successful transition of public works services from the county to the city of Centennial. He is also focusing on transportation needs including work on I-225, Arapahoe Road and the interchange with Parker Road. His goal for his second term continues to be to ensure that Arapahoe County continues its policy of fiscal soundness and high levels of service.
Additionally, Weddig represents Arapahoe County on the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, serves on Developmental Pathways Board of Directors, serves as Colorado Counties Inc, Treasurer, and on the E-470 Highway Authority Board.
Weddig says, "I have learned a lot in my many years of public service. I feel an obligation and the desire to offer that experience and knowledge to the community. I enjoy the challenge of finding practical solutions." Many of these projects will have a lasting impact on the community.
Frank Weddig has been a citizen of Aurora since 1971, actively serving the community in appointed or elected positions since 1977.
He retired from his occupation as a commercial construction electrician in 2002, after 36 years. He has been married to his wife Pat for 41 years, is father of 3 and grandfather to 6.
