A regional show for one of the rarest dogs in the world, along with a competition for all breeds, is coming to Aurora in August.
Lundefest with Friends, featuring the Norwegian Lundehund Regional Specialty Show, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at Expo Park, 10955 E. Exposition Ave.
The event, presented by the Rocky Mountain Norwegian Lundehund Society Inc., will include a couple dozen of the roughly 1,200 Lundehunds in existence worldwide competing for best of show in a Regional Specialty Match Class. These sprightly canines of Norwegian descent are between a foot and 15 inches tall and feature an unusual sixth toe on each foot that enables them to climb up steep inclines.
At the same time, an All-Breed Fun Match hosted by the High Plains Kennel Club will feature dogs of all breeds, competing in conformation, obedience and rally.
A competition for categories such as best costume and best trick, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Norwegian Lundehund Society Inc., also will take place for all breeds, including mixed breeds.
These shows are open to both participants and spectators, and other breeds on leash are welcome.
Registration will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. on the day of the event. Entry fees are as follows: Lundehund Specialty Entries, $10; Conformation (Purebred Dogs) Entries, $6; Rally & Obedience (All Dogs) Entry Fee, $6 (second entry for same dog, $4); and Fun Events for All Dogs (Best Costume, Best Trick, Largest, Smallest), $2 per event.
For more information on the event, call Connie Sloan at 720-851-5211 or Lynn Higgins at 303-646-2377.
Lundefest with Friends is sponsored by the City of Aurora Recreation Services Division, AvoDerm, Pinnacle, Breeder's Choice Pet Foods, Inc. and Samantha's.
