Santa didn't bring me a puppy!
Contributed by: Lisa Sickles on 12/9/2006

As the Holidays approach, many people are considering a puppy as a gift for someone.
This is not always a good idea.
Here are a few tips to consider before giving a gift of a puppy.
1. Make sure the person wants a pet!
2. Make sure that the family members know and understand what it takes to care for a puppy, i.e. food, shelter, grooming, training, proper toys, health care, etc.
3. If you know the person wants a puppy, wrap a stuffed dog and place under the tree, and allow the receiving person to pick out the right dog for them!
4. Make sure that the person is getting the correct breed for them, a nipping Australian Shepherd is not a great choice for a family with young children.

Dogs are a great addition to the family...if you are prepared.
The Holidays are so busy, and the additional strain of a new pup is not only difficult for the people, but can cause problems for the puppy as well.
