If
Broncos Country extends beyond the borders of Colorado, and I'm sure you'll agree that it does, I can tell you that there's no greater Broncos fan out there than 13 year old Sam Jones.
Sam, my son, and a Texan by birth, was transplanted to Florida at age 1. We have lived in Central Florida ever since. Sam's grandparents are in Denver, and they have contributed occasionally to his great love of the Broncos. However, at age 5, he came to the decision himself that the Broncos were HIS team.
By this age, he was able to rattle off facts, stats, and records of current and old Broncos players and teams. It was also at this age that he and his dad attended a Superbowl Party, made up of 80 teenagers, a few adults, and one 5 year old. The game was Atlanta vs. Denver. There was one Broncos fan in the house, Sam, and not a few hecklers, and cajolers, and those who would attempt to bring him over to the other side. He stood his ground that night, and many times since!
In the following years, his room began to look more like a messy Broncos locker room than a kids' bedroom. His wardrobe has also reflected his unflinching loyalty. Most of all, his undying commitment to the Broncos has weathered many seasons - good and bad.
We don't regularly get Broncos games in Florida, and we don't have NFL Sunday Ticket. This means that Sam "watches" most of the Broncos games online, play by play, on CBS Sportsline. Entire games are "followed" by nothing more than the computerized transmission of plays, after they have occurred.
This year, when the Broncos played the favored Indianapolis
Colts, my eldest daughter chimed in, to make a bet with her brother. She, being the local Peyton Manning fan, was not going to let this game go down without a fight. Thus ensued a bet, and Sam would have to get a Mohawk if his team lost.
Through the years, he has subscribed to the quarterly Broncos magazine and received daily online reports from the Denver Post. You may find an older Broncos fan, but you're not likely to find a more knowledgeable one!
I have no doubt that Sam will be watching the New Years' Eve game. If our networks don't carry it, you can find him sitting in front of his computer, waiting and watching to see what Mike Shanahan's next call will be. Or better yet ... on the sidelines of the game at Invesco Field, as the biggest Broncos fan in Broncos Country.
I have no doubt that he's your man!
