An eye-opening truth; The tragedy of Colorado
Contributed by: Ryan Millhollin on 7/1/2007

My name is Ryan Millhollin and I personally have no tragic story. No epic life-threatening extravaganza resides within my memories. Therefore, I may not deserve a suite at a Rockies game for the same reasons as those who overcame cancer, but because I am a dying breed.

I am a rare oddity that is laughed upon and exiled by the very community that should be on my side. I am a true, die hard Colorado Rockies fan. I follow the Rockies as best I can. I try to go to Rockies games as much as possible, and when that fails, I absolutely must watch the game on television.

I believe, 100 percent that the Rockies are THE BEST team in all baseball and that one day I will see us win a World Series. I believe in the potential of this vigorous and hungry young team.

I believe that every time I see a Colorado Rocky dig in I will witness a base hit, and that every game can be won. I hold no animosity when my team fails, for I respect that these young men have enough skills to contend at the highest level of the greatest sport. I understand how impossible it is to hit, field, and pitch at their level. I will always cheer the pitcher heading to the bullpen to tell him that I respect that he gave it his all. Now at a moment's glance that may not seem like any reason to award some kid the experience of a lifetime, but I believe differently.

If one has seen the shops and the youth of this state, in terms of baseball, they will see what I believe to be one of the saddest sights one can witness. Walk into any typical hat shop and what will they see? They will see Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox hat galore of all designs. Not a Rockies hat in sight. Worse yet, one would see all sorts of varieties of LA Dodger hats. Are you kidding me? Dodger hats outsell Rockies hats in Colorado. The Dodgers are supposed to be DIVISION RIVALS for goodness sake!

The youth of Colorado stampede around in their Jeter jerseys, when they don't even give a moments glance at the phenomenon of Troy Tulowitzki and his clutch hitting and rocket arm...Oh, and his unassisted triple play. What in the world is wrong with these people? Why don't they support their own home team? They claim that they don't support them because they don't make the playoffs, but how can they with no crowd support?

So, in conclusion, I believe that it would be nice if my efforts to cleanse the people of Colorado from New York's bandwagon would be rewarded. Sure I would enjoy the suite, but most of all I would enjoy Willie Tavaras' perfectly placed drag bunt down the first base line. Oh, and I would only bring the die hard fans that would deserve such an experience.
