Baseball is not a sport
Contributed by: Kendra Vasquez on 4/14/2008

It's more than that and it encompasses a variety of people, my family! Starting with me in high school, you would see me stand ready at my favorite position, third base. I wanted to grab that grounder as soon as it left the bat.Playing the sport helps me to root for that Rockies win all the more. When I watch the Rockies, I feel myself reading the ball's motion, making that catch and landing that out. I love the sound of the bat reminding me how it feels when it finds the dead center of the ball and sends it flying.

Last season, I felt united in support for the Rockies with the city and with my father. He came down from Montana and we took a day at a sports bar watching the Rockies win. We played pool, enjoyed some ribs, and celebrated every great play. Later down the road to the championship, I called him up excited to share in the feeling of victory with him. The Rockies helped us to find common communication lines. They also help with gift ideas. I bought both my parents Rockies championship beercoolers.

My sister made her own trip down to Denver one weekend. We bought her some lower level seats to a game. She barely contained her excitement on the way to the field. She captured Helton on photo to bring it back to our dad. What a great way to spend a summer afternoon outside!

Just my husband and I love following the game with strangers in the same bar. I feel great knowing we're all in there for the same reason, to support a local team in snatching that win. When the Rockies team does land that win we're glad to tell others we're a part of that team. We'll be a part of it until the end. What if they lose one? That doesn't matter. The next game is just a few days away.
