Second grade teacher understands inclusion
Contributed by: betty mitchell on 4/12/2007

Ms. Vanda Livingston is a second grade teacher at Cottonwood Creek Elementary in Englewood. My 9 yr old daughter has autism, and is in Ms. Livingston's class part of the day and part of the day she gets individual instruction in a small classroom with one on one teaching.

We have been extremely impressed with Ms. Livingston's kind, caring attention to all her students and how smoothly she has incorporated our daughter into her class, and included her as an equal with the other children.

Because of her approach to treating Molly as an individual first then someone who has autism with a different style of learning, the other children follow suit and are kind, caring and helpful to Molly.

This is such a wonderful environment for our daughter! Ms. Livingston's understanding and acceptance of differences in her students demonstrates tolerance and inclusion at its best.
