Time for a change on Englewood council
Contributed by: Phil Gilliam on 10/10/2007

I would like to urge my fellow Englewood voters to vote for Laurett Barrentine, Douglas Cohn, and Joe Jefferson. It is time for change. We have been captive of a 6-1 city council for too long. The City is going broke and instead of taking the steps necessary to balance the budget the majority wants to spend our reserves(read savings). We have what is supposed to be a nonpartison process. The result is that the voters have a hard time figuring out what the candidates stand for.

We need to get real and get rid of the tax and spend liberals and install some council members who understand a balanced budget. People who understand that if your income falls, you cut expenses. You don't raid your savings account.

The current City Council voted in a law requiring a 60 foot wide lot on which to put a duplex. There are about 10 of those lots in the entire city. The rest are less than 60 foot lots. This is the same City Council that is trying to figure out how to come up with affordable housing.

The current City Council cannot perform maintenance on the medians we have and they want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars putting in more medians on Broadway. Give me a break.

By voting for Barrentine, Cohn, and Jefferson we can start getting control over what is going on in Englewood. Rumor has it that with the electiion of these three, the Council may even flip 4-3 in favor of common sense.
