I am not a believer in New Year's Resolutions. I believe that most of us do not write our resolutions to be successful. Therefore, I am asking people to only make one resolution: To live an inspired life in 2007.
Now, a thought may be popping into your head right now. What IS an "inspired life?"
Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help define "inspired life:"
* When was the last time you got goose bumps while in action?
* What was the topic of conversation the last time you were "animated" while talking to another person?
* If you were to walk into the world's largest book store, which section would you go to first?
* Is there someone that you know who you envy?
Are there any themes or commonalities when you answer these questions? Are there any surprises when you answer these questions?
The first thing to understand about inspiration is that it is
internal, not external.
Now, I'd like to ask a check-in question. Do you have negative self-talk going on inside your head right now? Is your inner voice telling you that your life is "okay," so don't rock the boat? To take action may upset the safe, secure, mindless life you have constructed.
Will you trust yourself? Will you feel the fear and do it anyway so you can "live an inspired life in 2007?"
Remember, we don't eliminate fear, we overcome it. And how do we do this? We get into action. Action equals results. Until we put action in place, we are just making "wishes."
Here are a few action steps you can take to start defining your inspired life:
* Start asking questions of yourself.
- What specific things in your life are you tolerating?
- What are five pleasures that you could put in your life on a weekly basis?
* Make a list of 30 positive qualities or talents you possess.
- Each day pick one and focus on it as your 'thought of the day.'
* Recognize when you are on auto pilot and just going through the motions in your daily life.
- Are you in control of your life or are you relinquishing control to your job, your boss, your spouse, your children, your to-do list?
* Start exploring.
- What baby steps can you put into place to try new things?
Here is a mantra you can say to yourself each day (and maybe even write on an index card): I am in action. I am trying new things. I may fail and that's part of the process. I will stay in action. I may make mistakes and that's okay. I will stay in action. I believe in me.
