To the "Athlete of the Week" selection committee:
We would like to nominate senior
Grace Shearrer
for your award.
Grace Shearrer has excelled in athletics and academics at Englewood High School for four years. She currently has a 4.0 GPA and is rankedNo. 1 in the class of 2007. Grace has lettered all four years in cross country. She also excels in basketball, soccer and track. This year she has won four races with a PR of 19:15 for a 5k race. She is the epitome of diligence and intelligence; her dedication to academics and athletics has made her one of the most exceptional young ladies whom we have ever encountered.
As a leader she exemplifies pride, courage, and endurance (the cross country team motto). She keeps the team unified on and off the course. She is the role model for the team.
Currently, Grace is being recruited by Division I schools, including the University of Wyoming and Creighton University.
Academically, she excels as well. As Co-Editor-in-Chief of the school's award-winning newspaper, the Pirateer, Grace further demonstrates her leadership capabilities, while also assuming full legal responsibility for the content and coverage of the paper. Here too Grace has won more than her fair share of the honors. As a junior she received 3rd place in the Colorado High School Press Association (CHSPA) Sweepstakes Awards for graphic illustration. As a senior, she captured the first place award, as well as a third place award for the team entry "In-Depth coverage". Last year she received a third place STEPP scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for a feature article on the effects of second hand smoke on employees of restaurants.
A four year member and officer in student government, a two-year member and officer in National Honor Society, Grace Shearrer is a student who epitomizes the honor of being named "Athlete of the Week."
We hope that you will view our nomination of her favorably, and select Grace Shearrer as one of your featured athletes.
Sincerely,
Bill Ambron
