I am a former community journalist at YourHub.com who now works as a copy editor at the Vail Daily. I mostly use YourHub.com to keep in touch with my former colleagues at YourHub.com World Headquarters in Denver, but I also like photography and post a lot of photos. Cody, Wyo., soon will be my home
Contributed by: Joel Hunt   on 4/28/2008

When Ingrid applied for an accelerated nursing program at the University of Wyoming, I told her I'd make an effort to get a job somewhere in the state (except for some sporadic weekends when she has to be in Laramie, she can live pretty much anywhere).

So I started looking a few months ago -- not just for any job, but a better job, too, because in theory, she could have stayed in Denver and I could have stayed in Vail or moved down to the Front Range again.

I applied for a number and some didn't work out, but eventually I got a hit for a community relations/volunteer coordinator job at West Park Hospital in Cody.

So after a phone interview, the hospital flew me up, rented me a nice Chevy Malibu with 6,000 miles on it and got me a room at the AmericInn (the nicest AmericInn I've ever seen).

To make a long story sort of short, I interviewed on Thursday morning, the CEO called my references and offered me the job Friday. It's a good offer for a good job at what seems to be a good company. Oh, yeah, and if you don't know where Cody is, it's about as close to Yellowstone as you can get without living in a tent.

So I accepted the offer and will be moving to Cody in a few weeks, dependent on where and when I can get housing. I'm pretty torn about leaving Vail because I really like it here, but I guess I'll just trade in my ski days for camping and backpacking days. There's some skiing around -- Jackson Hole and Big Sky -- but they're far enough away to need to spend a weekend there to justify the drive, especially during the winter when you can't cut through the park. There's also something about an hour and a half east, but nothing like having Vail and Beaver Creek in your backyard. I guess I always knew I wouldn't be able to live here forever. At least Ingrid and I will be able to afford to buy a house, especially after she gets her nursing degree, and she probably will be able to get a job at the same hospital.

Cody is really Western -- as in desert and cowboy movies. Not the towering peaks of the Colorado Rockies, but rugged and definitely the Rockies, especially as you get closer to Yellowstone.

So definitely expect to see more photo posts -- I hear they hold gunfight reenactments in town every weeknight during the summer. Oh, yeah, and the national park.
