I am a former community journalist at YourHub.com who now works as a copy editor at the Vail Daily. I mostly use YourHub.com to keep in touch with my former colleagues at YourHub.com World Headquarters in Denver, but I also like photography and post a lot of photos. "You know that every time I try to go where I really want to be it's already where I am." - System of a Down, "Sugar"

Here's an e-mail sent to Chris Freud, our sports editor, from a high school athlete's parent who thought his daughter ought to be getting more coverage:
"Chris:
Knowing your passion for 49er football, I pose the following question...
If you were a sports writer in San Fran during their "dynasty", would you briefly mention Montana, a multiple all-pro recipient, super bowl winner, and league MVP, in your preseason article? Doubt it...
Although you've stated, wrongly, "my desire to have my kids in the paper"...my desire is to receive credit when credit earned.
3-time 1st team all-league, 1st team all-state as a junior, league MVP as junior, D-1 full scholarship recipient...
Question, name other student athlete(s) - boy or girl - from BMHS to be named league MVP and/or receive D-1 full athletic scholarship? I imagine a very short list.
Regardless if others tire of my kids recognition, they deserve the notoriety.
A round-a-bout "astute" reference is not fitting for the amount of effort and accomplishment.
Please do not disrespect my daughter's accomplishments by "wrongly" assuming this is a parent's misguided desire for recognition or narcissistic behavior.
No response required or wanted."

This e-mail came to our general newsroom e-mail after we ran a story about dogs attacking ranchers' sheep with a pretty graphic photo (it's photo No. 2, reader beware):
"Subject: Please do not forget we have children who look at the Vail Daily
I thought the picture of the sheep was particularly offensive. While I am sure you did it to make a point, surely there would have been another way.
PLEASE NOTE: This note is not for publication in your paper. It is only for your editor and whoever makes these choices."

This is an e-mail from an Eagle County commissioner in response to our April Fools' edition:
"Funny April Fools, you must still be gettin' some of that mad "sticky ecky" in the mail to write the way you do."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was to our photo editor about his cover photo. It was a pretty lame picture (see photo No. 3), and even our editor hated it, but this guy must have been passed over for a job:
"morning Preston, once again you guys continue to amaze me with the lack of talent that you have!! nice picture on the cover of the paper today you schmuck, how does that out of focus picture make the cover? oh yeah this is a poor, non-quality newspaper you and your editors really need to start looking for other work!!!!!!!!!!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The worst was a phone message from a tourist about an editorial that our Assistant Managing Editor Matt Zalaznick wrote. I can't put most of what it said here, but it started with the guy questioning Matt's Jewishness "with a name like Zalaznick" and ended by telling him that Matt's ruined the guy's "vacation, day, month, year and faith in humanity." That means it was a really good editorial.
