Blog Entry 39 of 49 Alpenglow
I am a former community journalist at YourHub.com who lived in Vail for two years before moving to Cody, Wyo., where I live now. I mostly use YourHub.com to keep in touch with my former colleagues at YourHub.com World Headquarters in Denver, but I also like photography and post a lot of photos. Yellowstone: Early season
Contributed by: Joel Hunt   on 6/3/2008

I was able to get up to Yellowstone for the first time last weekend, and even though many of the side roads and hiking trails were closed because of lingering snow, I was able to get to some of the more touristy features and orient myself to the park for future reference.

I bought a yearlong Yellowstone/Teton pass for $50 (entry to Yellowstone is $25 each time, so it should easily pay for itself), so I hope to get to know some of the backcountry areas of the park better, although I might not get the chance to do any overnight trips (rangers advise to always go into the backcountry with someone else -- wisely, of course, remember Aron Ralston, who had to amputate his own arm to free himself from undreneath a boulder while hiking alone in the Utah backcountry? -- and I haven't found anyone in Cody yet to go with yet).

The drive from Cody up to the east entrance through the Wapiti Valley is really pretty, and you have to go over the Absaroka Range to get to the park. You come out by the lake.

The pictures really tell most of the story.
