"THE SECOND HOME"
The idea of a second or "country" home is not new to America: the wealthy have had them for years. What is new is that, with rising income levels, middle class Americans can also enjoy the luxury of a 2nd home. This trend is encouraged by tax advantages which allow the owner to deduct many of the costs of ownership if the unit is rented a portion of the year.
2nd homes have begun to emerge in more remote areas. Combining the features of a destination resort with a 2 nd home community, these projects appeal to the wealthy. While a portion of income is generated from resort-type operations, the profit is clearly in the development of 2nd homes.
