Jerry Wager, coach of Trebol Soccer Club's U9 Boys team was named Coach of the year by Colorado Youth Soccer (CYS) at CYS's Hall of Fame banquet Saturday, January 27 at the Park Meadows Marriott.
Colorado Youth Soccer is organized as an educational and charitable organization formed to advance and foster the game of soccer among youth players through nineteen (19) years of age. CYS currently has a membership of over 65,000 registered youth players.
Nominations were requested from CYS' 65 member clubs in four categories: boys and girls competitive coach of the year and boys and girls recreational coach of the year. Coach of the Year nominations were considered based on the number of years coaching teams, coaching certification/licenses, community dedication and overall achievements, not including win/loss record.
Jerry Wager is a resident of Erie, Colorado. He coached the U9 Boys team to winning seasons in the spring and fall of 2006.
His team placed second in its age division at the prestigious CYS Cup. As a volunteer coach, Jerry shares his passion for the game of soccer with the kids and parents not only through his teaching, but also by providing exposure to others excelling in soccer. These activities have included a "Play Like a Pro" clinic for 150 kids with 10 Colorado Rapids players and coaches, taking his team to Colorado Rapids games, University of Colorado women's soccer matches, Boulder Rapids Reserve matches and participating in indoor soccer leagues. Jerry also works closely with the Colorado Rapids Soccer Academy in promoting the professional team's Academy and was recently elected to the Trebol Soccer Club Board of Directors.
