CHILDREN'S HEALTH, A COMMUNITY AFFAIR SAM's Club Donates $1700 for 2008 Children's Wellness Event
Another Colorado community is making the health of children a top priority. Medical experts agree that healthy lifestyle practices are the key to preventing diseases such as high cholesterol and obesity in children. Healthy Learning Paths has partnered with the City and County of Broomfield under the Healthy Broomfield initiative to offer education about effective strategies for healthy lifestyles at the free, 2008 Children's Wellness Event on Saturday, October 4 th. Sam's Club recently joined the team by presenting Healthy Learning Paths with a grant of $1700. Cindy Fredericks and Stephanie Romero, both with Sam's marketing team in Louisville, presented the award at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library. Stephanie notes, "Sam's Club is happy to include the 2008 Children's Wellness Event as part of our 25 years in helping families and communities improve their lives."
Olympic Gold Medalist Frank Shorter starts the event with a Walk4Kids. A sneak preview of the day includes family cooking classes, nutrition for teen athletes, burn prevention, and a special puppet show with DreamALings' characters. There is something for everyone as health experts and families explore safety, infant nutrition and immunizations, teen autism, and child advocacy. World Champion extreme skier and environmental expert, Alison Gannett will share four steps families can take towards a greener environment. Thanks to Avista Adventist Hospital, Whole Foods, and the Jared Polis Foundation, children take the spotlight during a free lunch where winners of the Wellness Art and Essay Contests share their entries. Families will experience the benefits of active living through dance with live music, yoga, golf, art, and other fun activities. Broomfield Rotarian Ambassadors will be on hand to guide families though the day. The October 4 th event will be held 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM at the Broomfield Community Park, Auditorium and Community Center, 3 Community Park Road, Broomfield, CO.
