In response to an increased number of culex mosquitoes
found in some traps within the Town of Erie, isolated
spraying operations will be conducted during the evening of
Wednesday, August 2, 2006 - weather permitting.
Localized spraying will take place in the neighborhoods of Erie
Commons, Grand View, Historic Downtown Erie, Erie Village,
Kenosha Farms and Kenosha Estates. Additional localized
spraying will occur in the open areas along Coal Creek just
west of Vista Pointe. Spraying operations will be
conducted between the hours of 8:30pm and 1:00am Thursday
August 3rd. Wednesday's truck mounted spraying operations
will be similar to those conducted throughout the town on
July 19th of this year.
According to Colorado Mosquito Control (CMC), the sharp
increase in both the total number of mosquitoes, as well as
a significant increase in the presence of culex mosquitoes
- the species known to carry and transmit the West Nile
Virus - is due in part to extreme wet weather followed by
the recent high temperatures.
CMC is under contract with the Town of Erie and will
provide the isolated spraying services. As part of the
agreement with the Town of Erie, prior to starting a
general residential adulticide application, CMC will
contact those community residents that have requested that
they be notified. Residents who wish to be notified prior
to spraying operations in their neighborhood may contact
CMC at 303-558-8730 to be placed on their notification call
list.
