Erie receives award for downtown excellence
Contributed by: Town of Erie on 9/29/2006

ERIE, CO - The Colorado Community Revitalization Association (CCRA) has awarded the Town of Erie's 2006 Concert in the Park Series the Governor's Award for Downtown Excellence. The outdoor musical venue was recognized in the "Promotion" category as a special event that promotes a positive image and improves the economic vitality of Historic Downtown Erie.

The Governor's Awards for Downtown Excellence recognize outstanding projects that reflect an attitude of perseverance and dedication to community revitalization in Colorado.

Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton presided at the awards ceremony held in Greeley on Friday, Sept. 29 as part of CCRA's annual conference. Award winners were recognized by the Lieutenant Governor and in the spring of 2007 have been invited to the Capitol to be introduced on the House and Senate floors and to meet with the Governor.

BACKGROUND:
The 2006 Concert in the Park Series attracted over 10,000 people not only from Erie, but from communities all over the Denver metro area. This year the Town contracted with Hazel Miller, The Nacho Men, Deja Blu and Funkiphino to perform on four separate dates during July and August.

The first 250 people at each concert received a free promotional item sponsored by local businesses. Starting at 5:00pm, a DJ entertained the crowd with music and interactive games for kids of all ages. Select food and craft vendors opened for business. At 6:30pm the main acts would take the stage. A 20 minute fireworks display followed the last concert.
