ERIE, CO - In response to the Holiday Blizzard of 2006, Town of Erie Department of Public Works (DPW) crews began snow removal operations at 5:00am on Wednesday, December 20th and continued non-stop through 5:00pm on Friday, December 22nd. Prior to the storm, crews applied "Ice Slice", a combination of salt and sand to Primary Routes.
Crews removed snow and ice from Primary, Secondary and Residential streets totaling approximately 210 single lane miles. As of Friday, December 22nd, snow removal trucks have made a single pass through all residential streets.
In preparation for a potential second winter storm currently forecast for this week, crews continue to remove snow and ice from major arterials (Primary Routes) that are the critical routes providing access into and out of Erie.
As with all major snowstorm events, snow removal efforts will be concentrated on the Primary Routes throughout the snowstorm. Minor arterials and collector streets (Secondary Routes) connecting the neighborhoods to the Primary Routes, will be plowed only after all Primary Routes have been done.
Should snow accumulations once again reach 12 inches or more, Residential streets will be plowed after Primary and Secondary streets have been completed. The Town asks for your patience as it is difficult to know when specific streets will be plowed. Residents are asked to please give snowplows the room they need to clear the street.
Please remain patient and to try to move cars off of the roads and onto driveways, if at all possible. Residents are reminded that by Town Ordinance, property owners are responsible for clearing their sidewalks of snow within 24 hours following each snowstorm.
