BACKGROUND:

For most of its years Erie consisted of a single, compact neighborhood in what is referred to today as Historic Downtown. Residents of Historic Downtown were able to (and are still able to today) walk to meet many of their daily needs and even go to work. In recent years, the Town's compactness has changed as new families have moved into homes located throughout the Town's Planning Area in both Boulder and Weld County. In order to address the changing needs of its citizens, the Town considers the enhancement of Historic Downtown's vitality to be important to the health and wellbeing of the Erie community as a whole. In addition to the Briggs Street Extension Project, the Board of Trustees included the recognition and development of Historic Downtown Erie under their Economic Sustainability Goal. The 2005 Master Comprehensive Plan promotes development of this area to foster a sense of community and strengthen support for existing businesses.
