How a couple crazy cats changed my life

Some people find reasons not to get a pet, even though they secretly want one very badly.
Take me, for instance. I grew up in the country and we always had cats around - mainly to scare of the mice, birds and squirrels that otherwise would make a home in our home. But once I moved out of my parents' home and left for college, I went pet-less for over a decade.
I always told myself that a cat would be too much work, that it would be too messy, it wouldn't be fair to the cat to leave it alone while I worked - I had every excuse in the book.
My mind was changed when my girlfriend and I saw a bunch of kittens at a shelter, and I felt horribly for them - they were about eight kittens kept in a single cage, and while they were healthy and well-fed, I thought it was awful that they did not get regular attention. On the spot, we bought two of the kittens and took them home.
Typically, you would think this would be the point in the story where I have my buyer's remorse, and write about how the cats drove me crazy until they finally won me over with their feline charm. Nope!
Those little guys were great right from the start. They are smart and friendly and maybe a little too rambunctious for my taste sometimes, but overall they seem to genuinely mean well. Having them around really makes me happy.
So for all of you who are pet-less, and know deep down that you would like a pet, then give it some serious thought. I never thought I would have another cat -- much less two! -- but I here I am, and I am pretty darn pleased about the whole thing.
