Blog Entry 68 of 357 Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I adopted a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you as I can. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200-400 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

A helpful hint

If your kids are like mine - and whose aren't? - they love monkeys. Heck - I love monkeys myself. So like us - as the Homer argument goes; they have thumbs and we have thumbs, so we're each able to hold ourselves steady in the event of an unannounced change of course.

Provided we get the proper warning, natch...

But how do we handle a routine event for which we prepare every night? Eventually the kids catch on and could very well become jaded to our approach. That's where the Monkey comes in...

If you'd like a helper in directing your kids along the way, and if you don't mind that it take the form of a talking, online monkey, I've got your answer:

Go to http://www.careerbuilder.com/monk%2De%2Dmail/ and build your own solution in the form of a talking monkey, speaking your words. You get to choose the monkey (of 3) that best suits your needs. You get to choose the voice (of 4) and you can type the message he speaks.

For me? I chose Mommy's favorite: a female chimp wearing a tiara in a corporate lunchroom saying, "OK boys. Get in your seat so you can eat."

You should feel free to play around with the voices and vocabulary until you get it right...

Chris Stone is a slightly different - hopefully better - Father and man than he was yesterday...
