Musings, Rantings and Ravings from perennial Libertarian Candidate for public office in Jefferson County, Colorado.

One libertarian candidate's take on the election

The election has come and gone, thank heavens! It's time for a little reflection.

Our Libertarian Colorado Assembly candidates like myself polled 4% to 6% in our races. This is 2-3 times our normal performance and 4-6 times our registration. It shows there are many voters who are looking for an out from the dysfunctional two-party system.

Colorado Libertarians also did much better than our national ticket which polled about 1% here and nationwide.

I am happy with the results of the national election and would have been patriotically proud of either Obama or McCain as president. But to see in my lifetime the final smashing of the glass ceiling for persons of color is like a blessing from above.

However, President Obama will have to govern. And one suspects that he and his victorious Democrats will be the ones to tell you: We ain't pulling out of Iraq, you ain't getting your civil liberties back, and by the way, your taxes are going up and your jobs are going away.

The Libertarian Party will be awaiting the call of the people in the midterm elections. The voters saw things more our way in Colorado in 2008 than ever before. Maybe the voters will see things even more our way after two more years of major-party venality and mismanagement of America.
