The Colorado Assembly ended this year's session with a whimper, much whining, and a growl in the general direction of TABOR.
The Democrats proved once again that even with a majority in both houses and an unpopular and inept Democratic governor, they can't do the job.
The Republicans meanwhile proved themselves raving troglodytes who shouldn't be allowed within miles of a majority at any time in this millenium.
Prison reform was not accomplished. Drug law reform was not accomplished. A realistic state budget, which cannot be accomplished without the other two reforms, was not accomplished. A bank robbery was attempted but forstalled when the intended victim, Pinacol, proved itself more adept at speaking to the public than the entire Assembly. Maybe we should just hand over the government to Pinacol: they make more sense when they talk than our elected leaders and their books balance.
The Assembly took time out from pursuing the people's business for various distractions and irrelevancies. They voted thanks to Israel for invading Gaza and killing hundreds of civilian non-combatants. They bashed Mexicans yet again, led by the Jefferson County Democrats' leading Tancredoists, Sen. Moe Keller and Sen. Betty Boyd.
The last bill of the session was a Democratic slip-it-in-while-no-one-is-watching gift to criminal elements in the construction industry: a provision to eliminate competitive bidding when the State of Colorado is weally, weally, twuly, twuly in a hurry. This is destined to become the norm, bids to be handed out non-competitively to important contributors, obviously.
If there were truth-in-advertising laws for politics, the Democrats and the Republicans would be called the Wimpy Crooks and the Thuggish Crooks respectively.
Isn't it time to vote Libertarian?
