The
Denver Post recently reported the appointment by Gov. Ritter of a "chief operating officer" for the state of Colorado.
The Republicans responded that the governor of Colorado is the chief operating officer of Colorado, so why the heck is he creating a brand new job paying about $146,000 a year to do his own job for him?
In reality, Don Elliman, the erstwhile CEO, is there to carve the pork. Elliman will be directing the flow of millions and possibly billions of federal stimulus funds into Colorado. Nice job ... Don can probably can make a few friends that way.
This new CEO job makes blindingly clear the real meaning of the Big Bailout and the its stimulus money. I mean, we already guessed how stimulating it was for the politicians themselves to open the treasury doors and throw gold to the masses. But it's easy to overlook how
the bailout and the stimulus create an almost infinite number of delicious, powerful, lucrative patronage jobs for the dependents and supporters of the politicos.
