From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

I heard through
Dee Myslik
that
Jacki Bell, t
he leader of Evergreen Animal Protective League was awarded the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce volunteer of the year award March 10.
Myslik, who volunteers for EAPL was the day's phone volunteer on duty from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help people who call about lost and found pets.
Although she lives in Castle Rock, she used to be an Evergreen resident and has kept up with the organization by manning the phones every Monday.
She said, "Everybody who knows Jacki knows it's an award that's long overdue. She started the organization 17 years ago."
I know from personal experience how dedicated the folks at EAPL are. Years ago they adopted several kittens from us. We took in a cat we found in a tree. She later revealed she was pregnant and we suddenly had a family of cats on the front porch.
When I called recently, it was to find out about EAPL taking over the former Habitat for Humanity resale shop on Bryant Drive. We'll see what they turn the shop into. It should have some fun pet stuff, according to Myslik.
For information, call 303-674-6442 or visit
www.eapl.com
Their email is eaplevergreen@eapl.com
They have lots of dogs up for adoption.
This one reminded me of my sons' dog ChiChi,, also a chihuahua
