Blog Entry 108 of 197 From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

Bus riders late, but safe
Contributed by: Karen Groves/YourHub.com   on 1/8/2007

The bus arrived a little late today for Evergreen commuters who work in Denver. We huddled in the little enclosure at the bus stop, bundled up in the dark.

It's a hardy group that shows up before the sun comes over the hill.
The wind is whipping around us and the full effects of it on traffic are apparent when we get to Genesee. There are cars in the median, trucks tilting off the highway.

A Colorado State Trooper's lights are whirling as he crosses the highway and slips on the ice.

"OOOOOhhh," comes a group exclamation from riders. The snow is blowing around like a mini-tornado just hit. The traffic heading westbound on I-70 is almost at a standstill. Some cars are perpendicular to the highway and look a little beat up.

That's kinda how I feel sometimes when I have to drive the commute, beat up.
But today, I sit back and let the RTD driver handle the worries, and he does just fine. I made it to work.
