From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

The commute from Evergreen to downtown Denver takes nearly an hour on the RTD bus if you leave from central Evergreen.
In my case, i catch the bus at the RTD park-n-Ride across from Christ the King Catholic Church. Sometimes I catch it farther north at the Bergen Park park-n-Ride.
Sometimes i drive down the hill to Cold Spring park-n-Ride which is like another civic center station without the underground or the buildings. It's pretty big at Union and Sixth Avenue.
The women behind me today were talking about tires on parked cars being damaged at the Cold Spring Park-n-Ride. i was shocked, but I guess things like that happen.
She said, "I don't think they slashed the tires, they just loosened the plug and let all the air out."
Oh, OK, that doesn't sound as bad as slashing. I feel so much better now. Slashing has a real violent feel to it, sudden, wicked and mean. Letting the air out . . . eh . . .something a bad child would do?
Still, what's the motivation behind that?
