With respect to restricting new development instead of restricting water for those of us already here, I do believe Castle Rock resident and hub.com blogger Mike Bates (milehidad.com) has hit the nail on the head! Concerns about growth are not just reflected in Mr. Bates blog of yesterday, but the Post's own editorial today (of 7/3/06, urging immediate action by the state to stop the pollution contributing to dangerous ozone levels).

Indeed, unregulated and run-a-way growth is the root of all of our social ills, whether it's traffic congestion, pollution, the over use or depletion of natural resources, or a number of other issues ranging from crime to providing public services. Unfortunately developers and crass commercial interests (neither of which actually live in the neighborhoods populated by the majority of us) buy off the politicians (who actually aspire to a beltway address, and likewise don't care about Colorado) and over build. Our post industrial society is no different from that of our agrarian ancestors, who left to their own desires would over farm and over graze the land into a moon scape.

A large part of the problem is by our do-nothing-county-commissioners that stuff their pockets with cash from developers while touting the benefits of capitalism and responsibile balancing of growth against the existing residents' quality of life. Perhaps all the hype and double talk from governments and developers in places like Douglas and Jefferson counties should be scrutinized closer, especially by those subject to more than just rhetoric from their upstream neighbors!
