Blog Entry 97 of 191 From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

Early birds get the express

Lots of people in Evergreen and Conifer take the bus to work in downtown Denver, or to the suburbs.

I have found it to be pretty reliable and last week when the snow started flying just in time for rush hour, it was a relief.

The service to Evergreen is usually pretty good. In the early morning, people who take the Express bus into Denver are standing on the curb at 6:24 at the Evergreen Park n Ride across from the Christ the King Catholic Church.

I know, that's early. But I like the Express because it only makes a few stops and then it's direct into town.

This morning one of the RTD candidates, Rich Mahan, had set up a post to let people know what he wanted to do if elected. He also got an earful from riders who had some suggestions of their own, such as, how about another street lamp in the parking area, it is . . . uh . . . DARK.

He said he wanted to push for a midday route and someone else piped in, how about a late night route, so we can stick around downtown and have dinner and then come home?

For me, I wouldn't mind a later bus, but then I started thinking, the reason I would want a later bus is so I wouldn't feel so rushed and pressured to leave work.

Now is there something wrong with this picture?
Hmmmmm.

I didn't say anything to Mahan at the bus stop. I think I will wait til they get wireless, and then I might thank someone for that. That would be a good idea don't ya think?
