From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

Yes.
I wasn't counting, but on Jan. 7 the Evergreen EX to Civic Center Station was so packed, one lady wound up standing all the way from Bergen Park to Civic Center Station.
That's unusual in my experience.
Full it might be, rarely is standing involved. On Jan. 9, I thought I would take a later bus from Cold Springs to Civic Center and whoa! The parking lot was full. And this is no shrimp of a parking lot. I drove to work, something my wallet hates to do, not to mention patience odometer.
On the ride home Jan. 8, the EX to Evergreen was not only packed, but the bus was smaller, plus more people. The regulars are shaking their heads, what's up with this?
Now that was a standing ride. Must have been 10 people standing, and that's all the way to El Rancho, which is the first stop.
I am puzzled by this sudden explosion of people compared to available bus seats. I am trying to figure out if maybe new jobs for people that coincide with the new year has created a parallel increase. Is this related to the
fee increase
? Huh? Raise prices and draw more riders?
Hmmm, may have to do a survey.
What are your experiences lately?
