Blog Entry 187 of 190 From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

Evergreen green with a hint of blue
Contributed by: YourHub.com   on 6/22/2008

Now that summer is officially here, Evergreen is really green.

And I mean powdery green. The pollen from the blue spruce trees wafts with every breeze. And if a wind is aching to swoop down, the air looks cloudy, as if a sage bomb had exploded.

All surfaces are covered with it. There is a hint of yellow and blue, so it's not totally green - blue green.

When I say all surfaces, I'm not talking about the deck or the porch swing or the hood of my car.

It's inside, too.

It's a little less obvious but, the windowsills have a distinctly powdery film.

Ahh, summer.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not complaining.

The weather here is perfect.
It may be hot in Denver, like 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

If so, just subtract at least 10 degrees. And add a breeze for good measure, green or otherwise. That's the temp here at 7,240 feet.

And for a brief appearance in the landscape, the poppies have bloomed.

Here's a bit about the Colorado Blue Spruce, (Latin Picea pungens - pungens meaning to sting, which is what the needles do - my they are sharp)
