JeffersonCounty Kiwanis Clubs Promote Back-to-School Immunizations
Jefferson County, Colorado - The Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) and the Evergreen, Blue Spruce and Conifer Kiwanis Clubs have partnered together in an effort to get as many children as possible up-to-date on their immunizations before the start of the 2008-2009 school year. On August 2, 2008 the Kiwanis Clubs will be at various Evergreen and Conifer grocery stores including King Soopers, Safeway and Albertson, as well as at the Conifer Music Festival distributing back-to-school immunizations flyers produced by the JCDHE Health Communications Program. The Kiwanis Clubs volunteered to print and distribute the educational flyers in an effort to increase awareness of vaccination as the best way to prevent many serious and life threatening childhood diseases.
The flyer details what immunizations are needed for pre-school, kindergarten and 6 th through 11 th grades and is written in both English and Spanish. Recommended Childhood immunizations include Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis, (DTaP); Polio; Hib; Rotavirus; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular Pertussis (Tdap), or Tetanus, Diphtheria (Td); Chicken Pox; Meningococcal vaccine. All children entering 6 th, 7 th, 10 th and 11 th grades are now required to have had the Tdap vaccine.
JCDHE has immunization clinics on a regular basis at its Lakewood and Arvada and clinics. Please call 303-232-6301 to make an appointment. There is an administrative fee of $14.50 per vaccine. Children's vaccines are free. Service will not be denied due to inability to pay for any childhood vaccine required by Colorado State law.
Under Colorado law, parents may choose to have their children exempted from immunization requirements for medical, religious or personal reasons. Fees for adults vary depending on the vaccine.
