Description:
On Thursday November 5, 2009 Wall Street comes to the West with the JA Stock Market Challenge, presented by The Allstate Foundation from 8:30am-10:00am and 12:00pm-1:30pm at the University of Denver's CableCenter. Nearly 110 teams of high school students from all over Colorado will compete in a realistic stock market simulation game to see who can grow their initial $500,000 investment into the highest net worth "mock" stock portfolio by investing 26 fictitious companies.
The participating Evergreen school is: EvergreenHigh School. These "junior investors" will experience a fun-filled two months of simulated stock market action condensed into two hours of excitement. The hectic atmosphere ensures urgent and intense trading to simulate a real trading floor, and thus guarantees a "Wall Street"-style learning experience the students will never forget.
The JA Stock Market Challenge, presented by The Allstate Foundation isn't just a fun afternoon - research shows that it's a great learning opportunity for students, as well. A 2006 study by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy indicates that high school students who participate in a stock market simulation program perform significantly better on a basic financial literacy survey than students who do not have the benefit of taking part in such a program. In fact, on this survey, kids who participated in this kind of stock market simulation in school scored even better than those who had completed formal coursework in personal finance, money management or economics.
