PFLAG Evergreen/Mountain Area Celebrates 15 Years
PFLAG Evergreen/Mountain Area was founded in 1993 as an outgrowth of the passage of Colorado Amendment 2 that would have prohibited any entity in the state from passing legislation protecting the rights of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered (GLBT) people and would have declared all existing laws invalid. The amendment was later declared unconstitutional by both the State and U.S. Supreme Courts.
To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we are holding a Community Meetingat 7 p.m. May 15 at the United Methodist Church of Evergreen, 3757 Ponderosa Drive. The evening will begin with opening remarks by Chapter President, Marva Kerns and Chapter founder, Barbara Sternberg. The guest speaker will be Dr. Keith Swain, psychologist, author and columnist speaking on Civil Rights Issues. There will be vocal entertainment by Harmonix, a group from the Harmony Chorus directed by Evergreen's own Bill Loper.
Marva Kerns will introduce Straight for Equality, a nationwide project encouraging Straight people to sign up in support of GLBT equality. You can also sign up on the web site www.straightforequality.org.
Following this presentation, there will be refreshments provided and a chance to talk with PFLAG members and supporters. We hope you can all attend.
