Hartman named CWMA Commissioner of the Year

The Colorado Weed Management Association (CWMA) has named Jefferson County Commissioner Kathy Hartman as the County Commissioner of the Year. Cathy Shelton of the Community Weed Awareness Campaign said that, "Kathy grasps the importance of weed control and embraces her position as a leader in this effort."

Shortly after taking office, Commissioner Hartman met with the County's Weed Management Specialist and members and volunteers of the Community Weed Awareness Campaign. She has attended the Annual Community Weed Day at Evergreen Lake, among others, to pull weeds and to raise awareness of the growing problems of the noxious weeds.

"Commissioner Hartman has attended local weed events and actually gets in there and pulls the weeds," Shelton said. Her energy is infectious and her attitude positive. "Weed control is only a lost cause if we don't try."

The mission of CWMA is to provide education, regulatory direction, professional improvement, and environmental awareness to preserve and protect our natural resources from the degrading impacts of invasive exotic noxious vegetation to Colorado and surrounding states. Noxious weeds are aggressive non-native plants that crowd out native wildflowers and native grasses.
