On Feb. 26, DRIVE SMART Evergreen/Conifer received the NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR award from the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce.
I am sharing this with you because you have watched Drive Smart grow, learn, and evolve over the years.
When we realized we were a finalist and were asked, "How many people in your community to you touch each year?", we knew it would be tough to explain.
Sure we are fortunate to have contact with over 10,000 people in our community each year from Buckle Bear to Car Seat checks to Skate The Lake, The Evergreen Lake Plunge, the drivers ed scholarships and even the Triple Bypass.
But truthfully we may never know as it is a trickle down effect of education. People don't think DRIVE SMART when they drive pass the flashing speed limit sign as they curve on Hwy 74 at Kerr Gulch or when they stop at the left turn light at Hwy 74 and Stagecoach or Hwy 74 and Louis Ridge Rd.
Or even at the roundabout in Marshdale and the speed limit decrease in Kittridge. All of which have not had a fatality since the members of Drive Smart lobbied to have these traffic safety measures brought into our community.
So to be recognized by a community like ours is quite an honor. We are just a few people trying to save lives one car seat at a time, one booster seat at a time, one seat belt at a time, one stop light at a time.
Thank you for supporting Drive Smart Evergreen/Conifer and all that we represent.
