JOHN’S CORNER: Sign of Spring – Remodeling Fever

One sure sign spring's on the way: Coloradans are beginning to get remodeling fever.

After a winter of looking at all the things around the house that could stand improvement, homeowners are beginning to think about spring fix-ups.

One popular room for major remodeling projects is the bathroom. But how and where to start a bathroom remodeling project can be a challenge. Your bathroom's nothing short of a refuge, your personal den of privacy, a getaway for relaxation and renewal. And it's also a part of your house you can't afford to be without - even for a short time.

So, if a bathroom remodeling project is on your agenda, it's important to decide exactly what you're going to do - and how you'll do it.

Will you do it yourself? Or hire a contractor? The bathroom's not a good place for on-the-job learning. A mistake can be disastrous - and costly.

And it's not a good place for one of those do-it-yourself projects that never quite get done. You know the kind, work progresses for a while and then the unfinished project sits for days, weeks or months waiting to be finished off.

One of the benefits of having an experienced professional do your project is that you'll know before work starts exactly what will be done and how long it'll take.

Once you've decided whether to do the work yourself or have someone else do it, it then it's time to ask a few more questions - about things like colors, textures, fixtures, and lighting.

But there's an even more fundamental question you should know the answer to before work begins: How do you want your newly remodeled bathroom to make you feel? Sounds simple enough, but it's actually more complicated that it may seem.

Our professionals have a lot of experience helping design and build bathrooms. And we've found getting the answer to that last question right is the difference between a project that simply replaces old fixtures with new ones and a project that transforms this important part of your house into an area that beckons you back again and again.

And don't forget to have a little fun planning your bathroom project. There are some exciting things you can add to your bathroom that you may not even know about. A few examples:

Steam Shower - Add a steam shower to your bathroom and you add the ultimate in relaxation. An adjustable control panel offers temperature selection from 90 to 125 degrees and allows you to pre-set the duration of your shower.

No More Cold Feet - Bath salts, luxurious toweling, soft lighting are just a few of the ways you can pamper yourself in the bathroom. But with a heated floor, you'll never again experience cold tiles on your bare feet. Electric floor heating also fills your bathroom with floor-to-ceiling warmth.

Upright Whirlpool - Now we can install a vertical whirlpool shower system for an amazing level of comfort and luxury. Unlike a typical whirlpool bath, a whirlpool shower pushes water through the air. The system includes an electronic touch pad so you can adjust the intensity and direction of the water flow for just the right degree of massage action.

If this is the year you remodel your bathroom, you'll be amazed at just how cozy and comfortable we can make your bathroom feel. Light a candle or two, and who knows, you might never want to leave!
