Youth Leadership Jefferson County held another exciting day Jan.17.
Business Day emphasized ethics in leadership and business.
Featured speakers included
Tom Clark, Executive Vice President of Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce,
Larissa Herda, CEO and President of Time Warner Telecom, and
Julie McLean of the Jeffco Credit Union.
Tom Clark, of the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, spoke about economics, the effects of business in every day life and how the Chamber of Commerce promotes business.
Larissa Herda, of Time Warner, shared her experiences in the business world and as CEO of a large corporation.
Julie McLean, from the Jeffco Credit Union, emphasised to the students how to protect themselves from identity theft.
After a good lunch, provided by Chipotle, the students drove a short distance to the Belmar Mall in Lakewood.
Lary Hirkle, Continuum LLC, George Valuck, Executive Director of AGCA,
Herb Rubenstein, President of Growth Strategies Incorporated, Hal Roths, CFO of the Colorado Rockies, and David Burnett from Wells Fargo each spoke to the class during the afternoon. Lary Hirkle and
George Valuck discussed the steps and resources needed to build the Belmar Mall.
Hal Roths, of the Colorado Rockies, described the relationship between business and sports. Following Mr Roths,
David Burnett from Wells Fargo, discussed the importance of morals in business with actual examples to illustrate his points.
During the afternoon, students were given the opportunity to interview the general managers of several stores in the Belmar Mall. Afterwards, the students discussed what they had learned from the store managers concerning business and leading a company.
Business Day was an enjoyable way to learn about how economics is a large part of our lives.
