DISTRICT ACCOUNTANT SHOWS GREAT INVESTMENT

Recording costs and money-savvy skills have earned Kathleen Askelson, Executive Director of Accounting for Jeffco Public Schools, the designation of Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO).

The Certified Public Finance Officers Program of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a broad educational self-study program designed to verify knowledge in government finance.

To earn the CPFO designation, candidates must demonstrate their finance knowledge by passing five examinations in governmental accounting, auditing and financial reporting, cash management and investments, debt management, operating and capital budgeting, pension and benefits, risk management, and procurement.

"For the last two years Askelson has committed her personal time to studying and preparing for the certification and the district was fortunate to have someone with her knowledge of public finance on staff," said Lorie Gillis, Chief Financial Officer for Jeffco Public Schools.

To maintain the designation, Askelson must participate in 30 hours of continuing professional education each year.
