Organic artist blooms this spring

In contrast to her unassuming and humble personality, the clay art work of Gail Frasier, of Evergreen, has recently received boisterous attention from the Colorado art community. This respected artist will participate in four separate shows throughout the spring and summer.

Frasier's work is truly unique, just as the elements in nature that inspire her. The vessels she creates originate from the wheel. For the first twenty years of her career as a production potter "once the piece was thrown, it was basically completed." Today the creation of the vessel is just the beginning of her art.

By layering slabs of clay to her thrown pieces, and then painstakingly contributing both three-dimensional and carved designs to the work, these works of art seem to come alive. Frasier's work reflects the beauty she discovers as she hikes and skis through Colorado's mountains. Bubbles created as a mountain stream smoothes the rough edge of a rock, seeds emerging from a bursting pod, or the outer layer of a cocoon splitting open to welcome new life, are each discovered through her love of nature.

"Change is life, isn't it?" she ponders. "I want to give a feeling of growth. It applies in nature and that goes to the personal level - personal growth," explained Frasier. That expression of growth is discovered in each of her works of clay.

It could be argued that Frasier's personality may serve as its own inspiration for her work. She will proudly tell you about her husband of 33 years, and her three children. However, it takes serious prodding to get this humble lady to tell you that her degree was in mathematics, specifically studying calculus and vectors. "I do think that if you get into calculus and vectors, you are creative," she laughed. She is truly an individual made of multiple layers, each fascinating to peel away and discover.

Her work can be found in galleries across the country, but fortunately for Colorado art lovers, will also be presented in four prestigious area shows. Look for Frasier's work at:

The Northern Colorado Artist Association's 15 th National Exhibition at the Lincoln Center in Ft. Collins, April 8 - May 13.
