During uncertain economic times, individuals, families, business and organizations look for ways to cut back. But for nonprofit organizations, times of economic stress produce a surge in demand for services and the current climate is no exception.
"The
Colorado Chapter of the National MS Society has seen a 300 percent increase in demand for services," said
Carrie Nolan, president, Colorado Chapter, National MS Society. "While we work very efficiently, the fact is that people look to the nonprofit community for help - especially in challenging economic times. People need access to care management assistance, education, resources and direct financial assistance whether times are good or bad. That's why it's essential that we find creative solutions - such as the Colorado Tax Check Off - to generate donations, which help to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of people living with MS," she emphasized.
The 2008
Colorado Tax Check Off is a quick, simple and anonymous way Coloradans can support nonprofit organizations such as the
Colorado Chapter of the National MS Society,
Easter Seals Colorado, and
Special Olympics Colorado this year. Simply check a box 43, 42 or 36 on the back page of your Colorado income tax form.
"One of four Coloradans, or 1.2 million people in our state live with a chronic illness," Nolan said. "The Colorado Tax Check Off has been an excellent way to make a meaningful donation to support those with chronic illness needs in our community. Small gifts can make a huge impact and we encourage everyone to consider this unique way to make a meaningful donation," she added.
