Chris Sharber Photography will hold a fundraising event
to benefit Rec Center Special Needs Program
Mark the date! Saturday, April 25 is your date to get beautiful children's portraits, just in time for Mother's Day. All the proceeds go to the Evergreen Park and Rec Center's Special Population Fund.
Did you know that the Rec Center serves over 60 participants with diagnoses ranging from Cerebral Palsy to Down Syndrome to Autism? They provide fun for the participants and respite for the families. Special activities and dances are offered once a month as well as camps during the summer and school breaks. They even have Special Olympics teams in bowling, basketball, skiing, track and golf. Like all great programs, they need equipment and money to allow them to offer these incredible services. The Special Population program is funded through district taxes, grants and private donations. Recently, the state froze some of the funding for these programs. This is where you come in.
By participating in the Giggles and Grins event, you get the opportunity to make a significant contribution. The Special Population program is currently in need of a reliable van with space for two wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, and money for scholarships for those who would like to participate but are unable to afford the program costs.
How did this all come about?
Chris and
Julie Sharber, owners of Chris Sharber Photography, heard a photography mentor explain how she had used her photography business to generate money for worthy causes. Almost instantly, those with disabilities came to mind. Chris grew up with a sister with Spina Bifida (a congenital condition that requires the use of a wheelchair) and Julie was a physical therapist prior to finding her true passion in photography. They are thrilled to use their skills and talent to promote such a worthy cause.
Currently, this is planned to be a one-day event, April 25. There is very limited availability. We strongly urge you to call ahead and make an appointment with Julie at 303-618-7618. The sessions will be held in the multi-purpose room of the Buchanan Rec Center from noon to 8 PM. Everyone will receive a fifteen minute mini-session. A beautiful collage of your child will be custom created and can be picked up the week of May 4-8, just in time for a great Mother's Day gift. A $50 donation to the Rec Center is requested and all proceeds go toward the Special Needs Fund.
"Our goal, in every session, is to create images that will capture your heart and steal your breath away", states Julie. To check out their work, go to
