Be sure to join the friends, neighbors and community members of the Mountain Peace Shelter at our Sixth Annual Taste of Italy Event on Thursday, May 14 th from 6-9pm at Platte Canyon High School. This is the only fundraiser organized and served exclusively by Mountain Peace Shelter's amazing volunteers, current and former residents, board members and staff to our wonderful supporters. When funding sources ran dry six years ago, the idea for Taste of Italy began with one simple sentence, "I can cook". With that statement from Executive Director Kathy Mastroianni, the annual fundraiser for peace in our community was started.

The Mountain Peace Shelter is more than simply a shelter for victims of Domestic Abuse. It is a place of safety and support as courageous women create new lives for themselves and their children without violence or fear. Such havens didn't exist when Kathy's mother committed suicide over thirty years ago because there was no other escape from her abuser.

The recipes are handed down from Kathy's Italian Grandmother along with the extra special ingredients of peace, gratitude and generosity given by each volunteer cook and server. Enjoy this "All You Can Eat" feast with friends and family. Perhaps you'll meet your neighbors as you enjoy the lasagna, pasta bar, fresh salad, fruit and of course cannoli and tiramisu for dessert. Non-alcoholic drinks are also provided.

Donations from businesses and kind individuals throughout the community will be up for bid in our silent auction. There really is something for everyone and all proceeds help the Mountain Peace Shelter keep the doors open and expand programs. Spa treatments, exquisite jewelry and artwork, birdhouses, pet treats, chiropractic treatments and Gift Certificates are just a few of the many items up for Auction! While you're bidding on a surprise for someone special or a unique gift for yourself, you'll be tapping your feet to the rhythms of live music performed by Riven Rock.

Bring your vision of peace, share a meal with our community and listen to the beat of mountain hearts as we all play together at Platte Canyon High School on May 14, 2009 from 6-9 pm. A children's area with activities will be provided so parents can go shoppin'. Tickets in advance are $25 for Adults, $10 for students. Children 5 and under are Free.
