According to Jean Rose at Jefferson County Highways and Transportation department, all traffic signals on Evergreen Parkway (Colorado 74) are under the jurisdiction of the state. Traffic signals south of downtown Evergreen on County Road 73 between Evergreen and US 285 at Conifer are maintained by Jefferson County.

According to Eric Mundt, a CDOT Region 1 traffic signal technician, what is being installed in the pavement at various intersections around Evergreen is a magnetic loop-detection system. This detects vehicles as they approach an intersection.

"The loop detection we had on Colorado 74 was really old. Until our department got the funding and the ok to replace it, the cameras were installed as another form of detection. Neither one is superior to the other," Mundt said.

Mundt said the cameras would not be taken out, since they serve as a secondary protocol. He said different modes of detection are used throughout the state depending on conditions such as the amount of traffic and weather.

"The protocols are implemented to benefit the safe flow of traffic," said Mundt.

Mundt said the project should be finished within 30 days.
