Reinventing the B and B

HIGHLAND HAVEN UPDATES HELP REINVENT B&B CONCEPT

EVERGREEN, Colo.-Highland Haven Creekside Inn owners Gail Riley and Tom Statzell announce the completion of $50,000 in upgrades to their mountain property, combining the latest in technology and luxury in order to continue to thrive in the competitive hospitality industry.

They have added flat-screen televisions and deluxe king pillow-top mattresses; extended complimentary wireless service to most rooms and all common areas, including outdoors along the creek; and remodeled the inn's junior suites to include new paint, carpeting and leather couches, plus additional bathroom space with upgraded sinks, countertops, showers and fixtures.

In celebration of the renovations, the Highland Haven is offering a special "High Tech Meets Romance" package ($100 off the usual $310 rate) in its premier cottage -- the Gardener's Cottage -- weekdays through July. The Gardener's Cottage features a King canopy bed, moss rock gas fireplace, a private Jacuzzi tub, and a private deck with wireless service.

"Tom and I continually reinvest in the Highland Haven so our guests can enjoy the latest technological advances in an elegantly historic setting," said Riley. "We are reinventing the concept of the bed and breakfast. We pride ourselves on our upscale yet un-fussy environment, which we find appeals to everyone from honeymooners to families to businesspersons."

Riley's "no-doily" philosophy appears to be paying off. Occupancy rates were up 52 percent in March alone. Corporate business has also increased, up about 25 percent over last year, with companies such as Oracle, Eddie Bauer, Hunter Douglas and Pfizer choosing the Highland Haven as a meeting site. Web site business is up as well, with the vast majority of news guests originating from the refreshed web site.

The Highland Haven is situated along 400 feet of Bear Creek near historic downtown Evergreen, only an hour away from Denver International Airport. Known for its emphasis on customer service, the inn features 17 rooms, suites and cottages, each distinctly appointed in "Colorado chic" dcor, designed for maximum comfort and luxury. A full, homemade breakfast is served in the historic Dailey Cabin, believed to be one of the first cabins built along Bear Creek.
