I have spent most of my life in cities but have always loved the mountains. So, when I retired from the Office of the Public Defender in Chicago, I began to consider moving near my daughter and her family who live in a suburb of Denver.
I knew I didn't want to live in Denver so I started a search of mountain towns on the internet. It very quickly became clear that Evergreen was the place. So, in September of last year I came and spent a few days. While here, I bought a house on top of a mountain with spectacular views. I moved here two months later!
Before I moved I sent away for the Chamber relocation packet and was immediately drawn to the Newcomer's Club brochure. As soon as I got my house situated I started attending Newcomer's functions. There were so many to choose from and such a wide variety that I was soon very busy. I play bridge with them, am part of a wine tasting group, attend their monthly lunches, and play bunco, to name a few. There are so many other activities I'd like to try, if only I had the time!
Through these activities I have met so many wonderful people. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. And, through these people I have learned all about Evergreen and about other groups to get involved with.
So, here it is, six months later and I have a circle of friends, am on the board of Newcomers and am so busy that my daughter complains that I don't have time for them.
I can't begin to express what Newcomer's has meant to me. I was nervous moving alone to a small town where I didn't know anyone. I needn't have been - thanks to Newcomers.
