42nd Annual Evergreen Rodeo Kicks-Off with 'Buck Off' Competition

Local Celebrities Ride Mechanical Bull

Evergreen area celebrities will compete in a mechanical bull riding event as the 42 nd Annual Evergreen Rodeo kicks-off on Friday night, June 13. Competitors will raise funds for the non-profit rodeo association by collecting $1 per second pledges and attempting to ride a mechanical bull for eight seconds in the "Buck Off,' which takes place at 5:30 p.m. in the rodeo arena at the El Pinal Rodeo Grounds, Colorado 74 and Stagecoach Road in Evergreen.

The amateur mechanical bull event is the pre-show for the rodeo's new opening night professional event, Friday Night Bulls, spotlighting expert riders from all around the country and followed by a dance featuring the Railbenders Band.

In the line-up to ride the mechanical bull are Karen Cage, Fuller Towne and Country Realtor, Bull Riding Sponsor, and Chair of Evergreen Chamber of Commerce; John Ellis, Evergreen National Bank, Past-President of Kiwanis, and Blue Quill angler guide; Jim Davis, 1st Bank President, Bull Riding Sponsor, Past-Chairman of Evergreen Chamber of Commerce and Past-President of Evergreen Rotary; Mel Nuchols, President of Evergreen Chamber of Commerce; Garry DeJong, Chief of Evergreen Fire Department; Chuck Ridings, Rodeo Sponsor and Treasurer of Evergreen Rodeo; Peter Eggers, Board Member of Evergreen Park District; and Jane Weinberger, Director of Senior Resource Center of Evergreen. To register a pledge and support your favorite riders, contact them directly or call Rodeo President Kristy Tolan at 303-674-9668 or Rodeo Chair Gail Ridings at 303-679-4466.

The 42nd Annual Evergreen Rodeo, traditionally held every Father's Day weekend, is one of the last small town PRCA-sanctioned rodeos in the country and one of the oldest events in the Rocky Mountain foothills community of Evergreen, Colorado.

Scheduled for June 13, 14 and 15, 2008, the rodeo kicks-off with the new bull riding events and a dance on Friday night. Saturday's festivities include a parade in downtown Evergreen in the morning, pre-rodeo events throughout the afternoon and the rodeo in the evening. On Sunday, the rodeo opens with the popular Muttin Bustin, a favorite for children ages 5 to 7, who are suited up in protective clothing and judged on how many seconds (up to eight) they can hang on.

The Evergreen Rodeo is sponsored by The Canyon Courier and KYGO FM 98.5. Tickets, priced at $12 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12, can be purchased at select local merchants, the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce, and on-site on event days. For more information, visit EvergreenRodeo.com
